Vaser Railway Offers Regular Steam Action

Did you know there is an amazing relic of a steam operated railway tucked away in the forest. The lure of international tourists to this part of the world has led the railway to maintain a number of steam engines which are used in regular service and on specials.>
In this day and age, we can’t be too choosy when searching for regular steam action. This one is a gem tucked away, which is now readily accessible.
This excerpt talks a little about the railway and how it works. Most of the services are now diesel, but they still use regular steam.
Watch the video below too – the track has to be seen to be believed!

Sometimes known as the «Vaser Valley Railway» the forestry railway of Vişeu de Sus is a unique example of technical cultural heritage.  Travelling over a network of some 60 kilometers of narrow-gauge track, you can still find wood-burning steam locomotives running alongside several diesels and railcars.  For the enjoyment of our numerous visitors, we are keeping the tradition of steam railways alive in Vişeu de Sus, offering regular steam trains, charter trains with catering services and trains for special events. As a new attraction and unique style of guest accommodation, we can now offer you an overnight stay in our Hotel Train “Carpatia-Express”, right next to the train  station.
